Sligo Branch News

We had a very full schedule of events last year: one each month from September 2009 to June 2010. Topics ranged from the ‘layout of a roman city’ to ‘what Plato was really saying to us’. We try to cater to a broad and varied audience.

Speakers came from as far away as Cork and Dublin while some local contributors held our attention with presentations that were both easy and fascinating to listen to. We plan to have another busy year this year.

Out membership is growing slowly. Our usual attendance numbers about 20 to 25 people from a variety of interest areas with a core group now forming. Funding is an on-going concern giving rise to plans to increase our income with some special activities.

We have settled in the Sligo Institute of Technology as our regular meeting venue. The location is at the edge of Sligo with good parking and excellent presentation facilities. Our meeting end with a little socialising over tea, coffee and good conversation.

Our program is forming for the coming season with a draft plan in place. There is flexibility to allow for changes in the availability of speakers and we have an emergency back-up in case of last minute glitches. We would welcome offers from the general body of CAI members to come to present here in Sligo. We are open to all interest areas but try to ensure that we are not too academic or esoteric so that a general audience can enjoy the presentation.

Come north-west along the road.
