Nick Lowe is a Senior Lecturer at Royal Holloway, University of London. His main areas of interest include: Greek and Latin literature, especially comedy; the theory and history of narrative; the ancient book; humour theory; and Greek religion. His book "The Classical Plot and the Invention of Western Narrative" was published by Cambridge University Press in 2000.

David Scourfield is Professor of Classics at NUI Maynooth. He has a broad range of research that covers both ancient social and cultural history and literature. He is particularly interested in the literature of consolation and whole field of bereavement and grief in antiquity. His other interests include the ancient novel and the literature of late antiquity.

There will be a trip to gardens in Abbeyleix, Co Laois, then
on to the Slieve Bloom Mountains and a visit to the Quaker heritage village of Rosenallis. This village was involved in the lace trade. A stop at Portlaoise for lunch and then on to Abbeyshrule to see three high crosses and round towers.
