The CAI Academy in Ancient Latin and Greek

CAI-academy

Introduction

The classical world continues to be a source of fascination to young and old alike. Latin and Greek have enriched the lives of successive generations for over two thousand years.
The Classical Association of Ireland believe in continuing this tradition. We aim to provide classes in Greek and Latin to students who do not have access to them in their own schools, and who wish to take these subjects at Junior and Leaving Certificate level.
We are indebted to the Greeks for the creation of our Western Civilisation. They laid the foundations of our civilisation by giving us western philosophy, drama, architecture, sculpture, democracy, magnificent poetry and a flexible and fascinating language.
Over half the words in the English language come directly from Latin. The Romans were superb engineers. They have given us the basis of our legal system, and some outstanding prose and poetry.

Classes

Classes in Latin and Greek will be held from September 2008, commencing the week of Monday 15th September. They will run for twelve weeks up to Christmas, with four Saturday classes.
Classes will run after school, lasting for one and a half hours, from 4.30-6.00 p.m. (this may vary locally).
Pupils will be required to attend one session per week, plus one Saturday morning workshop of three hours each month. The students will also be expected to do some homework.
